Abstract
Background There are several causes of hearing loss which may be of endocrine or metabolic abnormalities with different degrees. Thyroid hormone insufficiency is one of the most common endocrinal disorders that can cause hearing loss, vertigo or tinnitus. Objective audiovestibular evaluation in patients with hypothyroid disorders. Methods This study included 30 healthy control subjects and 30 hypothyroid patients. Subjects in the current study were submitted to: Immitancemetry, Pure Tone Audiometry and Vestibular assessment using Vedionystamography . Results There was no significant difference between both groups as regard age and sex distribution.The pure tone audiometry results were within normal in all subjects in the control group and 83.3% of the study group, mild and moderate sensorineural hearing loss were reported in 13.4% and 3.3 of hypthyroid patients . VNG test results were normal in all subjects of the control group, no abnormalities were reported in VNG test results in the study group except for 3 patients (9%) who had positive Dix- Hallpike test . Conclusion Most of the patient in the current study had normal hearing and vestibular assessment which may be due to the proper control of the thyroid function.
